If social media, camera phones and the internet was ruling the 90’s, Master P would have been a major star as a professional athlete. Percy Miller, a man of many talents was acting in blockbuster movies, running the music industry as a businessman and playing in the NBA alongside teammates Vince Carter and Tracey McGrady, while holding his own. It was not easy, it took hard work and sacrifice, a lot of practice, wear and tear on his body, spending several years in the minor league before getting David Stern and the NBA to believe in Percy Miller aka Master P’s basketball skills.

Many people today, probably thought it was all hype or a PR stunt, but the ones that got a chance to witness with their own eyes like tv host Kevin Frazier from Entertainment Tonight and those who followed Miller’s basketball career from high school, college, and to the pros, know the truth that Percy Miller had real pro game and he worked for every opportunity. When he came into the CBA and ABA minor leagues, he worked his way up to the NBA gaining some legitimacy, but once he started getting buckets and playing time in the NBA it started to look like he belonged. However, some of the league’s owners and general managers were uncomfortable with Miller’s Rap Music career taking over the spotlight. At every game Miller played in, arenas were sold-out packed with excited fans and P’s Pro basketball career became a casualty of culture discrimination.

Russel Jones, a Toronto Raptors fan said, “I remember it like it was yesterday. P. Miller hitting that 3-pointer and rocking the #17 jersey, he had legit skills. My friends and I were going crazy at the house as we witnessed history. One of the most successful rappers in the industry turning into one of the top NBA players. I have no idea why the Raptors took him off the roster, he was the last one to go. Ticket sales alone was crazy and would have been massive throughout the season. People were lined up in Canada to watch P play professional basketball. Dude could play for real.”

Vince Carter said in an interview, “I thought Master P was a lock on making the Toronto Raptors final roster when we played together. The world witnessed him stopped and popped 3’s on a fast break!” Sounds a lot like today’s NBA style of basketball, Percy Miller was a shooter and was just ahead of his time.

P. Miller is one of the only black men in history so far, to make it out of an impoverish environment, successfully conquering sports, film and music industries simultaneously. Master P was an accomplished rapper selling over 100 million records, a Hollywood actor, a Hip Hop artist and mogul owning a piece of the music industry with his company No Limit Records, creating so many job opportunities, multi-millionaires and gold / platinum artists independently. Percy Miller has been educating and giving back to the culture and the community as a philanthropist for over twenty-five years and is committed to adding diversity into the grocery stores with a line of breakfast food products and snacks. He has devoted his life’s work to God and is an advocate for mental health awareness. Like the late great Nipsey Hussle said, “There should be statues of P. Miller for all that he has accomplished for the Culture.”
